Lionsview Seniors’ Planning Society Board of Directors:

Joanne Franko – President

Joanne holds a Masters’ degree in Gerontology from SFU and has worked as a municipal planner, social services provider in the non-profit sector, researcher, and advocate for integrated community-based seniors’ services.  Studies in gerontology aligned with her experience in community planning and have provided a foundation for work in program and service delivery for older adults living in North Shore communities.   She advocates for improved and integrated community services to support independent living; particularly home support, caregiver respite, and, adult day centre programming.  Currently Joanne is working as a Community Development and Healthy Aging Consultant and is looking forward to working with the Lionsview Seniors’ Society in her new role on the Board of Directors.  Having lived on the North Shore for most of her life, she has a vested interest in actions that will lead to a better quality of life for elders living in our communities.

Virginia (Ginny) Cathcart – Secretary

Virginia (Ginny) Cathcart, BA, Dip.DH, M.Ed, is retired after 35 years in post-secondary education and administration at both the University of Alberta and Vancouver Community College (VCC).Ginny was the VCC Dental Hygiene Department Head for seven years. … She has presented and published in Canada, the USA, Japan and South Korea on topics relating to oral healthcare for seniors and caring for medically complex patients. Ginny’s last role at VCC was in Education and Curriculum Development where she collaborated with faculty, staff and administration in all program areas to improve teaching and learning. Ginny is loving volunteering with North Shore ElderCollege Society, BC SPCA West Vancouver and with Lionsview. see more

Deanna Charlton  Director

Deanna has two daughters and has lived on the North Shore since 1978. She is a retired RN and her nursing career spanned 17 years in general surgery at St. Paul’s hospital. Prior to entering nursing she had a 20 plus year … career in business, primarily as a purchasing and inside sales manager for an analytical chemistry company and several electronic firms. Her hobbies and interests include seniors and community issues, music, photography and travel. She is currently a member of the Board of the Keep Well Society and President of the Lionsview Seniors Planning Society.

Barry Goodwin – Director

Barry builds on many years of experience in employment services, small business counselling and training, marketing, community economic development, vocational rehabilitation, business lending. Experience in the private, public and non-profit sectors (as well as in various multicultural settings). His career experience includes the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society (PICS), managing employment services programs; the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), as Manager, Business Training and Counselling; and Manager, Social Housing with CMHC. Currently active with: the Metro Vancouver Alliance (serving on their Housing Research Action team) as well as member of the Community Housing Action Committee (North Shore Community Resources).  Born and raised on the North Shore but with enough living, working and studying experience east of BC to understand what Canada is about. An MA in Political Science also helps.

Lorna Goodwin – Director

Lorna Goodwin has extensive experience in community development, not for profit governance, and management. A long time North Shore Resident, she is a retired employment services manager and career coach with designations as a Registered Rehabilitation Professional and Clinical Counsellor. She has worked in various sectors including education, health, government, social work and business.

Currently, Lorna continues to be actively involved with several key community organizations. She sits on various Boards and Committees including: Founding Board Member of North Shore ElderCollege Society; Vice Chair of the ElderCollege Planning Committee, Past Chair, North Shore Chapter of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP); Volunteer Interviewer and Advisor to the “Better at Home” and “Caregiver Support” programs for North Shore Community Resources; Advisor to the “My Parkgate Break” project for Parkgate Community Services; Advisor to Capilano Community services, My Lionsgate break project.

Joy Hayden – Director

A seasoned fundraiser and community engager, Joy has a proven track record of increasing revenues and developing new programs in the human services, not for profit sector.  For more than 25 years Joy has ensured those most vulnerable in our communities have the resources they require to be successful. Her mission has led her into her current role as Innovation and Engagement Specialist at Hollyburn Family Services Society. Her title aptly describes her focus to raise funds for unique programs that address gaps in services for people experiencing social issues in the community.

Annwen Loverin – Director

Annwen has worked in the field of seniors’ recreation and social services since 1997. She is currently Executive Director of Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre, which provides more than 70 programs and services for North Vancouver seniors. Annwen comes to this work with an MA in Community Planning from the University of British Columbia and additional training in Non-Profit Management from BCIT.  She is committed to a community development and engagement approach to improving seniors health, well-being, and independence. Annwen joined the Lionsview Board of Directors in 2013.see more
