Lionsview Seniors’ Planning Society Board of Directors:

Raye Lee – President

Raye joined the Lionsview Seniors’ Planning Society (LSPS) June 2012, and is currently the LSPS Liaison to the City of North Vancouver Senior Action Table and the Seniors Today Advisory Committee. Raye recently retired from the Federal Public Service with 35 years of service and brings a wealth of community and public service to the Lionsview board. Raye served as a volunteer with the City of North Vancouver on the Social Planning Advisory Committee (SPAC), the Coach House Community Working Group, and the Lower Lonsdale Legacy Fund and represented the SPAC Committee on the Tri-Municipal Review of Community Grant forms. Raye is looking forward to continuing to support an age-friendly initiative on the North Shore that is not just for seniors, but for all of its citizens. Raye has two daughters and has enjoyed working and living on the North Shore for many years.see more

Joanne Cooper – Vice President

Joanne is a software development and project manager with over 20 years of experience managing global teams. She has a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan and an M.S. in Engineering from California Polytechnic State University.  … Joanne finds it very rewarding to support teams and individuals to help them be more effective and fulfilled at work. She is currently enhancing her skills set by training as a Certified Life Coach.  Joanne is actively involved in her community, serving on various committees on the North Shore. She especially enjoys volunteering at community kitchens on the North Shore with her husband and two daughters. For Lionsview, Joanne has worked as a project manager for the Seniors Today project and has served with Senior Action Teams.see more

Khodarahm Bakhshandeh  - Treasurer

Khodarahm is a retired mechanical engineer from Iran. Khodarahm held many important positions in the Abadan Refinery in Iran, eventually becoming the General Manager of this refinery. He spent 18 years working in Germany as the Authorized Representative for the reconstruction project of Bander Immam Petrochemical Complex and then as Procurement Manager in a company in Hamburg. He immigrated to Canada with his wife to be closer to their daughter. Khodarahm enjoys spending time with his 3 children and 3 grandchildren. He has been an active volunteer with “Hamrahan”, an Iranian Senior Peer Support program since March 2009 and is currently a member of the Lower Capilano Seniors’ Action Table. He serves on the board of the Canadian Iranian Foundation and joined the Lionsview Board of Directors in 2013. see more

Virginia (Ginny) Cathcart – Secretary

Virginia (Ginny) Cathcart, BA, Dip.DH, M.Ed, is retired after 35 years in post-secondary education and administration at both the University of Alberta and Vancouver Community College (VCC).Ginny was the VCC Dental Hygiene Department Head for seven years. She has presented and published in Canada, the USA, Japan and South Korea on topics relating to oral healthcare for seniors and caring for medically complex patients. Ginny’s last role at VCC was in Education and Curriculum Development where she collaborated with faculty, staff and administration in all program areas to improve teaching and learning. Ginny is loving volunteering with North Shore ElderCollege Society, BC SPCA West Vancouver and with Lionsview. see more

Deanna Charlton – Director

Deanna has two daughters and has lived on the North Shore since 1978. She is a retired RN and her nursing career spanned 17 years in general surgery at St. Paul’s hospital. Prior to entering nursing she had a 20 plus year career in business, primarily as a purchasing and inside sales manager for an analytical chemistry company and several electronic firms. Her hobbies and interests include seniors and community issues, music, photography and travel. She is currently a member of the Board of the Keep Well Society and President of the Lionsview Seniors Planning Society.

Annwen Loverin – Director

Annwen has worked in the field of seniors’ recreation and social services since 1997. She is currently Executive Director of Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre, which provides more than 70 programs and services for North Vancouver seniors. Annwen comes to this work with an MA in Community Planning from the University of British Columbia and additional training in Non-Profit Management from BCIT.  She is committed to a community development and engagement approach to improving seniors health, well-being, and independence. Annwen joined the Lionsview Board of Directors in 2013.see more

Vi Johnston – Director

Vi has lived in North Vancouver for close to 50 years.  A widow with two children – a son who is an industrial designer and daughter who is an architect, Vi retired from her career as an educator 10 years ago.  Her interests include her garden and walks with her Boston Terrier, Daisy. Vi is looking forward to resuming her work in weaving and sewing.  However, Vi has also added volunteering to her already busy schedule.  A decision to “get off the couch” led Vi to Seniors One-Stop.  As a result, she now serves on the program committee for North Shore Elder College, and advocates for seniors with Lionsview.see more

Lorna Goodwin – Director

Lorna Goodwin has extensive experience in community development, not for profit governance, and management. A long time North Shore Resident, she is a retired employment services manager and career coach with designations as a Registered Rehabilitation Professional …and Clinical Counsellor. She has worked in various sectors including education, health, government, social work and business.
Currently, Lorna continues to be actively involved with several key community organizations. She sits on various Boards and Committees including: Founding Board Member of North Shore ElderCollege Society; Vice Chair of the ElderCollege Planning Committee, Past Chair, North Shore Chapter of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP); Volunteer Interviewer and Advisor to the “Better at Home” and “Caregiver Support” programs for North Shore Community Resources; Advisor to the “My Parkgate Break” project for Parkgate Community Services and represents Lionsview at the Seymour Seniors Action Table. see more

Deacon Rennie Nahanee – Director

Deacon Rennie Nahanee, our newest director, has lived and worked on the North Shore all his life. The Squamish Nation Reserve has been his home since he was born. He has a diploma in television production from BCIT and a Diploma in Pastoral Ministry in Permanent Diaconate Program from St. Mark’s College. Rennie has volunteered as a permanent Deacon at St. Paul’s Church, Squamish Nation, North Vancouver. He has served on the Urban Aboriginal People’s Advisory Committee of the City of North Vancouver and is a board member with Ustlahn Society, whose current project is a community garden on the Capilano Reserve.  Rennie is married with two grandchildren and is part of a large extended family.  He enjoys singing church songs and playing the guitar and ukulele.see more
